Aim
Our aim at Tower House Junior School [ages 6-11] is to provide the widest possible education. A high standard of academic work is encouraged throughout the school, but this is combined with the opportunity to develop social and emotional skills in a small caring community within a warm family atmosphere. To this end our children leave us accomplished, happy, self confident, well- mannered young people who have respect for others.
The Curriculum
We teach the sets of skills and knowledge bases recommended by the National curriculum, using the best of traditional and modern methods. We use National tests from Year 2 to monitor the progress of our pupils in preparation for SATS and 11+ examinations. The structured timetable is based on both core and foundation subjects and is kept under constant review. The small classes enable the individual development of the children and allow time for the teachers to both build caring relationships with their pupils and give them the academic help and attention they require. Pupils are encouraged to try new experiences such as workshops with talented professional actors, storytellers, artists and sports coaches both within the school environment and in going out to events locally and county wide. We are frequently highly placed in music festivals and sports events. We teach a particularly wide range of activities in Physical Education which include: the basics of football, tennis, golf, cricket, rugby, netball, volleyball, basketball, trampolining, track and field events, gymnastics and weekly swimming lessons.
Extra Curricular Activities
Participation in a variety of activities is encouraged, from an early age. Music plays a big part in the life of the Junior school and children may learn to play piano, guitar and woodwind instruments supported by staff and peripatetic teachers, or they can join the choir. All the children are included in at least one dramatic and musical production a year. Pastoral Care
Individuals are important to us and we aim to give them positive encouragement during their school life to help them develop in confidence and self esteem. The school is non denominational but celebarates traditional Christian festivals at Harvest and Christmas. Discipline is firm and there are high moral standards. There is an emphasis on encouraging high standards of behaviour with a care and concern for others.
Links With Parents
We strongly value links with parents who are welcome in school at anytime. There are three parent meetings a year and two written reports to inform parents of children's progress. In addition, Parents at Tower House School support the school in many ways organising social and fund raising events. What is most important in our school is the warm family atmosphere where the children feel safe, secure and happy.
